Gypsy…Gypsy…Gypsy; most of you know him as the one and only Wylie Ford, but to me he’s Gypsy. Like everything else Wylie does, this nickname was an evolution.
He decided one night that he wanted a cool nickname. My four-year-old niece was kind enough to provide him with the nickname “Wylie Baby”, but that was not enough. Somehow, Wylie decided to name himself “The Gypsy Barncat Baby” to which I have shortened “Gypsy”.
As we all know, Gypsy is a creative genius…really and truly. He’s a gem that we were lucky enough to convince to join us at the ground level and has been with us ever since. At this point in time, he could go and get a great job designing at any large corporation of his choice, but instead, he’s 100% with us.
Believe it or not, it’s been one year since Wylie decided to risk everything, leave his two jobs and join our team full-time; and what a remarkable year it has been. We just spent the last few hours discussing all that we have achieved and all that we look forward to achieving in 2011. It’s amazing what one-year has brought…
We’ve put on three W-1 MMA events, designed all marketing materials and clothing and completely re-designed the website. We’ve filmed multiple episodes of MMA Unplugged (visit w1mma.com for full episodes), ventured to Montreal on several occasions and, most recently, Halifax.
We’ve re-designed company logos for Barrie Core Wellness Centre, Roadrumble, RT Natural Energy and IBT and have either re-designed the respective websites or are in the process of creating new ones.
We’ve taken on new clients such as Right Step Renovations, Fearless FC and WestRock Productions (a personal success for Wylie as he was able to bring his younger brother Jarrett into the Dreams Team).
Speaking of the Dreams Team, it has grown quite a bit in one year, adding Rob Bartlett, Devlin Ford, Jarrett Ford, Nicole Barbour and Christie Connors to our regular staff as well as multiple team members for W-1 events.
Most importantly, we’ve had a lot of fun! Incorporate a trip to Vegas in with daily kibitzing in the office, creative brain storming sessions by the pool, engaging and entertaining team meetings, blood, sweat and tears and you have the beginnings of one of the most remarkable journeys of our lives.
So in the spirit of the evolution of Wylie, I declare that 2011 will be the year of the Gypsy – what a year it will be!
