My favourite song right now is by a country singer named Johnny Reid; the song is called “Today I’m Gonna Try and Change the World”.  I find myself listening to it multiple times a day, thinking about the ways that we all have the power to make the world a better place or change someone else’s life.  I think about the many ways that I’ve tried to help others in my life and find myself smiling a lot more these days.

I look at my husband Shaun, who has always been driven in life to help others and I feel proud, honoured and overwhelmed that he chose me to share his life with.  I can honestly say that he is single handedly making the world a better place and taking each of us with him on his journey.

They say every ship needs a captain and Shaun is our captain.  He is our calm leader who we have all put our faith in, who we rarely question (and even then it’s in our own foolishness) and who somehow makes everyone’s dream a reality, no matter how crazy or far-fetched that dream may be.  He is the driving force behind our passion and excitement to help everyone we come in contact with and our voice of reason when we rock the boat.  He is the reason we dream to help others and never question whether or not it is possible.

Where Wylie and I swing from the rafters, screaming to the world about the amazing things we accomplish, Shaun prefers to sit quietly in the background, plotting our next move.  He asks for no recognition or reward for the miracles that he works, only a simple thank you from the person he has helped and the knowledge that they may, in turn, help someone else.

Shaun has changed so many lives with his kindness, his gift of brilliance and his passion for helping others and everyday I am thankful for the life that we share together and the dreams we are making a reality.
